Eurekamp and the DHMakerBus are joining forces again this summer to bring the MAKE U camp
program to the beautifulUniversity of Victoria Campus,. We’ll be running this camp from June 8-12 to once again align it with the hundreds of people who visit the
University of Victoria at this time each year for theDigital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI). Last year’s camp was
a great success, with a small group of children aged 8-12 making everything from Brushbots and LED throwies to noodles out of Gatorade and a Matrix-style camera.
We even transformed the classroom into a Camera Obscura!
By offering this program we are able to allow DHSI attendees to bring their families, and hopefully we can spend our week with more of the wonderful children who call Victoria their home! While the children and youth who attend MakeU might be missing school they certainly won't notice with the program we've put together.
Make-U is a week-long camp asking young learners to learn by doing. Explore a new world of gadgets, gizmos, and innovative technology with an emphasis on fun, creativity, and DIY learning. This year, we plan to up our game by making Art Bots, Paint Pendulums, and having the campers make 3D scans of themselves. Like all Eurekamp experiences, the campers are encouraged to ask and consider the “big” questions that come out of these activities.
Questions at the forefront of our programming include: “What makes someone a Maker?” “Does changing what you see affect what you think?” and “Are there any truly new ideas?”
Please consider enrolling your child in Make U, where we can make u see the world a little differently. =)
